Oman itineraries by trip length

Oman is a driving country and the two questions that decide the trip are what car to hire and when to come. Both get answered badly online. The road up Jebel Shams is tarmac for the part that matters, while several of the wadi approaches are where ground clearance earns its money, and summer turns the canyons into ovens rather than swimming holes.

Which Oman itinerary should you pick?

The 8 day route, which is the standard loop from Muscat through the coast, the sands and the mountains and back.

Five days covers Muscat and the coastal wadis. The extra three are what buy Nizwa, Jebel Shams and a night in the desert, which is where most of the country actually is.

What we checked

Why this page exists. Every RoamWeek page has to say something true of it and false of its siblings. For Oman that is the question of how long to stay, which the duration pages below answer one length at a time.
