Malta itineraries by trip length

Last updated . Transport, entry and booking details can change. Check the named official sources before travel.

Where you stay decides which Malta you get. Base yourself in St Julian's or St Paul's Bay and the week is construction noise, traffic and nightlife. Base yourself in Valletta, Mdina or on Gozo and it is walled cities and sea. Visitors who disliked Malta and visitors who loved it very often describe the same island from different postcodes.

Which Malta itinerary should you pick?

The 5 day route: 3 days on the main island, 1 full day on Gozo and 1 kept flexible.

Three days covers Valletta, the Three Cities and Mdina. The last two are what stop Gozo becoming a rushed half day, and visitors who give it less almost always say afterwards that they wish they had given it more. Two things need booking before you arrive: the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, which admits ten people an hour and sells out months ahead, and a Blue Lagoon slot if Comino is on your list.

What we checked

Why this page exists. Every RoamWeek page has to say something true of it and false of its siblings. For Malta that is the question of how long to stay, which the duration pages below answer one length at a time.
