Japan is a country sized trip, so a short itinerary needs a hard geographic boundary. The first useful split is Tokyo and Kyoto, not a list of every famous city.
Is one week enough for Japan?
7 days are enough for Tokyo and Kyoto with 1 intercity transfer and no additional overnight base.
Osaka can be an evening or a day trip from Kyoto, but Hiroshima belongs in a longer route if the week is meant to feel like a holiday.
