Reading a fare properly

What these prices are

Every fare here was found by a real search in the last few days and cached. That makes them a reliable guide to what a route costs and a poor guide to what a seat costs right now. Airlines change prices continuously, so the number you see after you continue to the supplier is the one that counts.

Why the same route changes price so much

Fares move with how full the aircraft already is, not with a schedule. Two seats bought a day apart routinely differ by half. That is also why the calendar is worth a look before you commit to a date: shifting a departure by two days is often a larger saving than any amount of searching on one date.

Stops are not just time

A connection adds the layover, but it also adds the chance of missing it. A single ticket protects you when the first leg runs late. Two separate tickets do not, and that is the difference worth checking before choosing the cheaper option.

When to book

There is no universal best day. What holds is the shape: prices drift down until roughly six weeks out on short haul and three months on long haul, then climb steadily. Booking inside two weeks is where the sharpest rises are, and that is the window worth avoiding rather than any particular weekday.
