Hoi An is easiest when the Ancient Town gets time on foot and the surrounding countryside gets a separate half day. My Son is a different kind of heritage visit, so it works better as the third day than as a rushed extra.

Two days work for the old town and nearby countryside. Keep My Son for a third day rather than squeezing it into an evening transfer.

Which month to avoid Hoi An?

If rain and storms would limit outdoor days, avoid the 4 months from October to January, which Vietnam Tourism identifies as Hoi An's wetter season.

The same guide lists March to May as the best period to visit and says June to August can work if you are comfortable with heat.

Which is better, Da Nang or Hoi An?

For a 3 day stay centred on walkable heritage streets, Hoi An is the better base; choose Da Nang when you want a larger city, beach and Son Tra.

The two places are close enough to combine in a longer route, but they are not the same kind of base.

Day 1: Hoi An Ancient Town

Keep the first day on foot inside the Ancient Town, using the official ticket information to choose a small set of heritage interiors.

    UNESCO describes Hoi An as a well preserved trading port with a traditional street plan and a mix of indigenous and foreign influences. Start before the hottest part of the day.

    The official Hoi An tourism information lists the bridge among the heritage sites included in the town ticket system. Check the current ticket rules before entering.

Day 2: Countryside and An Bang

Cycle or ride through Tra Que and Cam Thanh, then use An Bang Beach as the only coastal stop instead of crossing back and forth.

  • A second beach day. One coast stop leaves room for the old town, countryside and the heritage site that makes this route distinct.
