7 Days in Bali
Two bases and one hotel transfer leave more of the week for the coast, temples and Ubud than daily cross island traffic.
Last updated . Opening days, entry rules, fares and road conditions can change. Recheck the official sources linked below before travel.
Bali is not improved by changing hotels every two nights. Traffic and narrow roads make the south and Ubud different operating areas, so this route uses one base in each and plans day trips outward rather than crossing the island repeatedly.
Is seven days enough for Bali?
7 days are enough for 2 Bali bases with 1 hotel transfer, normally the south for 3 nights and Ubud for 4 nights.
The north and far east are omitted. They belong in a longer trip or a different route built around those regions.

Day 1: Southern Bali arrival
Check in, stay near the chosen base and keep the first sunset free of reservations that depend on airport traffic.
Afternoon and evening
Sanurabout 2 hours
Use the beachfront path for an easy first walk if Sanur is the base, or apply the same rule near your actual southern hotel.
Southern baseevening
Eat close to the hotel and confirm the pickup arrangements for the next day's driver or transport.
Day 2: Uluwatu and the south coast
Group one temple with nearby coast time and avoid returning north before dinner.
- Book before you go
- Confirm temple event tickets and transport
Full day
Uluwatu Templeabout 2 hoursbook ahead
Dress for the temple rules, secure loose belongings around monkeys and verify any performance ticket separately.
Jimbaranevening
Finish closer to the airport side of the peninsula rather than beginning another long evening transfer.
Day 3: A flexible coast day
Choose one beach area based on the actual base and conditions, then protect the final southern night from another island crossing.
Full day
Nusa Duaabout 3 hours
Use the maintained beachfront and water conditions as the day's focus if calm swimming matters.
Sanurevening
Return for a low logistics evening and prepare for the move to Ubud.
Day 4: Transfer to Ubud
Make the only hotel change and attach one stop that sits naturally on the route, not a full sightseeing circuit.
Transfer and afternoon
Southern Balimorning
Leave outside the worst expected traffic window and ask the driver what the current route permits.
Ubudafternoon and evening
Check in and explore the centre on foot rather than immediately starting another long drive.
Day 5: Ubud on foot
Spend a complete day in and around the town so Ubud is a base, not only a departure point for tours.
- On foot
- About 6 km with heat and uneven paths
Full day
Campuhan Ridgeabout 90 minutes
Start early for lower heat and turn around before the exposed walk becomes the day's main strain.
Ubud Palace areaafternoon
Use the afternoon for selected galleries, shops or rest rather than chasing every nearby attraction by car.
Day 6: Rice terraces and water temple
Use one northbound driver day and choose stops by route order instead of building a scattered attraction list.
- Book before you go
- A verified driver and current temple information
Full day
Tegallalangabout 2 hours
Go early and decide how much of the terraces to walk based on heat, rain and current path conditions.
Tirta Empulabout 90 minutes
Read the visitor and dress rules before arrival and observe ceremonies without treating them as a staged attraction.
Day 7: Departure buffer
Keep the final hours in Ubud or near the airport according to the departure time and current traffic estimate.
Flexible day
Ubudmorning
Use a late departure morning for one café, market visit or massage within easy reach of luggage.
I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airportdeparture
Leave according to a live local estimate with a generous buffer, not the distance shown on a map.
What is worth the time, and what is not
Worth your time
- Two bases. They reduce repeated traffic and give both the coast and Ubud local time.
- One routed driver day. Stops can be ordered along a single direction rather than scattered across the island.
Skip it
- A third hotel base. Another move consumes more time than it saves in a one week trip.
- North Bali as a day trip from the south. The drive turns the experience into a traffic endurance test.
Why this route works
The plan treats traffic as a first order constraint and keeps only one hotel change. Each base has at least one local day, so neither exists merely as a place to sleep between tours.

Why this page exists. Bali is the only route here where road distance consistently understates transfer time enough to make the number of bases the central itinerary decision.
