Sri Lanka itineraries by trip length
Last updated . Transport, entry and booking details can change. Check the named official sources before travel.
Two decisions shape a Sri Lanka trip and both get made before you land. The first is whether you hire a car with a driver for the whole route, which is the local default and is quoted as an all in day rate. The second is the reserved seat on the hill country train, which is sold through one government site and opens exactly 30 days before travel.
Which Sri Lanka itinerary should you pick?
The 10 day route, which takes in the cultural triangle, the hill country and the south coast without a day that is only driving.
A week means dropping either the hills or the coast. Two weeks is what people take who also want Jaffna or the east.

Why this page exists. Every RoamWeek page has to say something true of it and false of its siblings. For Sri Lanka that is the question of how long to stay, which the duration pages below answer one length at a time.
